biography Tony Carreira, stage name of Antônio Manuel Mateus Antunes, is a Portuguese singer who is very successful in Portugal and also among Portuguese communities in France. Born in Armadouro, Pampilhosa da Serra, Portugal, on December 30, 1963. After emigrating to France, he began his career, singing in the Portuguese community of Paris with the band “Irmãos 5”. In 1988, he adopted the stage name “Tony Carreira”, chosen by his music producer, Frenchman Patrick Oliver. That same year, he participated in the Figueira da Foz Song Festival with the song “Uma Noite ao Teu Lado”. In 1990, Tony Carreira signed a contract with Discossete. In 1991 he released his first album, “É Verão Portugal”, where he dedicated the song “Meu Herói Pequeno” to his first son, and it was a huge success on the radio. In 1992 he released his second album “Canta, Canta Portugal”. In 1993, Tony signed with the Espacial record label, which released the album “O Português de Alma e Coração”, which was a huge success with the song “A minha Guitarra”, receiving the Golden Disc. In 1995, with the song “Ai Destino”, he was considered a singer with a romantic style. In 1997, Tony recorded the album “Coração Perdido”, which contained the song “Sonhos de Menino”, recorded in his hometown. In 1999 he recorded the album “Dois Corações Sozinhos”, whose main song was “After Ti Mais Nada”. The album “Tony Carreira ao vivo no Olympia” (2000) went third platinum. Also successful was the album recorded in 2003, “15 Anos de Canções - ao Vivo no Pavilhão Atlântico”, released on CD and DVD, where it reached another platinum record. In 2008, to mark 20 years of career, he released the book “A Vida Que Eu Cholhi”, an authorized biography. Among the singer's other releases, the following stand out: “O Even de Semper” (2010), “Semper” (2014), (when the song “Não Te Vou Mentir” appears on the soundtrack of the soap opera “Jardins Proibidos”) and “Mon Fado” (2016). That same year, he was decorated by the French government with the medal of "Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters". Tony Carreira was married to Fernanda Antunes between 1985 and 2019 and together they had three children: Mickael (1986), David (1991) and Sara (1999). On December 5, 2020, singer Sara passed away as a result of a car accident in Santarém, aged just 21.
