Biography
biography Pedro Abrunhosa is a Portuguese pop rock singer, songwriter and musician. His full name is Pedro Machado Abrunhosa and he was born in Porto on December 20, 1960. He began his classical musical studies at the Porto Music Conservatory, where he graduated in Composition and History of Music. He was part of the Madrid Contemporary Music Group and worked with composers Álvaro Salazar and Jorge Peixinho. He also dedicated himself to jazz, playing double bass and collaborating with names such as Joe Hunt, Wallace Rooney, Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano. He founded the Porto Jazz School and the Cool Jazz Orchestra, which he directed and wrote arrangements for. In 1994, he released his first solo album, Viagens, with the special participation of saxophonist Maceo Parker. The album was a huge success, reaching triple platinum and revealing Pedro Abrunhosa as one of the most popular Portuguese artists. Since then, Pedro Abrunhosa has released several successful albums, such as Tempo (1996), Silêncio (1999), Momento (2002), Luz (2007), Longe (2010), Contramão (2013) and Espiritual (2019). Pedro Abrunhosa has had the collaboration of several national and international artists, such as Carlos do Carmo, Rui Veloso, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Lenine, Zélia Duncan, Ana Moura and Carolina Deslandes. In addition to singing his own songs, Pedro Abrunhosa also composes for other artists, such as Mariza, Mafalda Veiga, Clã and GNR. Pedro Abrunhosa also ventured into cinema, having starred in the film A Carta (1999), by Manoel de Oliveira, alongside Chiara Mastroianni. He also participated in several musicals, such as Rapaz de Papel (1998) and Amália (2000), both by Filipe La Féria. In 2020, he became a judge on the program The Voice Portugal, joining Marisa Liz, Aurea and Diogo Piçarra.
