Biography
biography Mind Da Gap was a hip-hop group from Porto, formed by three elements: Ace and Presto (rappers) and Serial (producer). They started in 1993, as Da Wreckas, and changed their name to Mind Da Gap in 1994, when they recorded their first model. They quickly became popular in the Portuguese hip-hop scene, reaching the top of the listeners list on José Mariño's program Rapto, with the song “Piu-Piu-Piu”. In 1995, they signed a contract with Nortesul and released their debut EP, the same name. In 1996, they formed a partnership with Blind Zero and released the EP Flexogravity. Their first album, Sem Cerimónias, came out in 1997 and was an important milestone for national hip-hop, showing the originality and quality of Mind Da Gap. In 2000, they released the album A Verdade, which featured Sam The Kid, Boss AC and General D. In 2002, it was the turn of Suspeitos do Costume, which achieved a silver record, a pioneering feat in Portuguese hip-hop. In 2006, they released Edition Ilimitada and were nominated for the Best Portuguese Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2007, they released the compilation Matéria Prima (1997-2007), which included songs from their four albums and new songs. In 2010, they released the album A Essência, which had the singles “A Essência”, “Não Pára” (with Valete) and “Sintonia”. In 2012, they released the album Regresso ao Futuro, from which the singles “O Jardim” and “És Onde Quero Estar” (with Sam The Kid) came out. In 2016, producer Serial abandoned the project, which led to the end of Mind Da Gap as a group. Mind Da Gap were one of the most influential and respected groups in Portuguese hip-hop, having marked several generations with their rhymes and beats.
