biography Sara Tavares was a Portuguese singer and songwriter of Cape Verdean descent, born in Lisbon on February 1, 1978. She began to attract attention in 1993/1994, when she won the first edition of the SIC Chuva de Estrelas competition, performing a song by Whitney Houston. He passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 45, victim of a brain tumor. In 1994, Sara was invited by Rosa Lobato de Faria to participate in the RTP da Canção Festival with the song “Chamar a Música”. The song received the maximum score from all the judges and won a place in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, where it reached 8th position. Throughout her career, Sara released several albums, including “Sara Tavares e Shout” (1996), “Mi Ma Bô” (1999) and “Balancê” (2005), which was considered one of the best albums of the year by critics and reached a gold record. Furthermore, Sara has collaborated with several other artists and participated in projects such as the tribute to Gershwin at Expo'98 alongside Rias Big Band Berlin. Sara Tavares became known for mixing pop, world music and Cape Verdean music in her songs.
