biography Nel Monteiro is a singer of Portuguese popular music, born in Barrô, in the district of Resende, in 1945. Nel Monteiro composes and performs his own songs, which mix elements of Douriense culture with influences on other musical genres that encompass various styles such as fado, choro, forró, baião, xote, samba and Brazilian music. Nel Monteiro started singing at the age of 20, when he went into military service and later worked as a businessman in the metal furniture business. In 1984, he recorded some songs as a joke that became a big hit, such as “Azar na Praia” and “Allô, Allô Maria Antónia”. Since then, he has released some successful albums, such as “Retrato Sagrado”, “Bronca na Discoteca”, “Bife à Portuguesa” and “Douro Vinhateiro”. He received several awards and honors for his talent and his contribution to Portuguese music. She performed on prestigious stages such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Lobero Theater and the Sydney Opera House and is considered a contemporary fado diva, who has a unique voice and a dramatization of her interpretations.
