Mário Laginha

biography Mário João Laginha dos Santos, known as Mário Laginha, was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on April 25, 1960. Portuguese jazz pianist and composer. Laginha studied at the National Conservatory with professors Jorge Moyano and Carla Seixas, having finished the Higher Piano Course with the highest rating. Mário Laginha throughout his career has collaborated with great musical personalities, such as: Maria João, Bernardo Sassetti and Pedro Burmester. He created the Mário Laginha Trio, with double bassist Bernardo Moreira and drummer Alexandre Frazão. Mário Laginha is also part of the LAN trio, with saxophonist Julian Argüelles and percussionist Helge Andreas Norbakken. Mário Laginha participated in the most important Jazz festivals in the world, namely the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Festival, San Sebastian Jazz Festival or the Montreal Jazz Festival. He proved his talent and inspiration alongside musicians as exceptional as Wayne Shorter, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Trilok Gurtu, Gilberto Gil, Lenine, Armando Marçal, Ralph Towner, Manu Katché, Dino Saluzzi, Kai Eckhardt, Julian Argüelles, Steve Argüelles, Howard Johnson or Django Bates. With enormous versatility and mastery of composition, he wrote for groups such as the Hamburg Radio Big Band, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Hannover Philharmonic Orchestra, the Remix Ensemble, the Drumming Percussion Group and the Porto National Orchestra.
