biography Ferro & Fogo is a Portuguese rock band, formed in January 1978 in Pontinha, Lisbon. The band is composed of João Carlos (vocals), António Feiteira (guitar), Rui Ricardo (bass), Jaime Ferreira (drums) and Gonçalo Brito (keys). The band originates from the group Plutónicos, formed in 1962 in Pontinha, which played covers of bands such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Shadows. In 1978, ex-Plutónicos Necas (guitar), Alfredo Azinheira (bass) and Mário Rui (drums) joined vocalist João Carlos (ex-Hosanna) and adopted the name Ferro & Fogo. The band performed its first performance in Aveiro, at the Beira-Mar pavilion, where the group Tantra also performed. In 1981, the band released their first single, "Super Homem", on the Metro-Som label. In 1982, he released his second single, "Santa Apolónia", and his first album, "Vidas", which was considered one of the best Portuguese rock albums of the year. The band performed the first part of the concerts of the futurist band Classic Nouveaux in Porto and Lisbon. In 1984, the band switched to the Discossete label and released the single "Oxalá". The band also composed the soundtrack for several children's theater plays, including "D. Quixote", which was shown several times on RTP. In 1986, the band toured the north of France and Brussels, for the Portuguese community based there. From then on, the band dedicated itself mainly to covers of hard rock and heavy metal bands, such as Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Judas Priest. The band began a circuit of bars and clubs across the country and participated in several biker rallies. The band also participated in the closing of Queima das Fitas in Lisbon in 1998. In 1993, the band was honored by the newspaper Blitz for its 15 years of existence. In 1998, the band performed at the Vespas nightclub in Funchal. In 2012, the band released a new EP, "Back to Life", which included four new songs. In 2017, the documentary "A Long Way to Nowhere", directed by Caroline Richards, was premiered in London, which tells the story of the band from its beginnings to its return to the stage. Ferro & Fogo are one of the oldest and most respected bands in Portuguese rock, having marked several generations of fans with their energetic and contagious performances.
