Biography
biography Djodje is a singer, songwriter and producer from Cape Verde. He was born on January 15, 1989, in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, into a musical family. His father was a guitarist for Tubarões, one of the most renowned bands in Cape Verdean music, and his mother was from a family of singers and composers. He grew up surrounded by music and learned to play several instruments by himself or with the help of his relatives and friends. Djodje began his musical career at the age of 10, when he formed a group called TC with his cousins and friends. The group performed at various events and festivals in Cape Verde and abroad. In 2000, when he was 11 years old, Djodje won a singing competition in Praia, which increased his popularity and recognition. In 2001, he recorded a song called “Volta” with TC for a summer compilation album. The song became a hit in Cape Verde and other Portuguese-speaking countries, and was considered the song of the year. In 2006, Djodje released his first solo album, titled “…sempre TC” in honor of his group. The album featured collaborations with artists such as Don Kikas, Heavy H and members of TC. The album generated successful songs such as “Tchas Fala” and “Misteriosa”, which led him to perform internationally in countries such as Portugal, Holland and Luxembourg. The album also received positive reviews from specialized media in Cape Verde and beyond. In 2007, TC made a comeback with their first album of original songs, which saw them tour Brazil and Portugal. In 2009, Djodje joined his older brother Peps and cousin Ricky Boy, also members of TC, and created their own record label called Broda Music. The label released Ricky Boy's album, which was produced by Djodje and was considered by many to be the best kizomba album of 2009. In 2010, Djodje released his second solo album, titled “Check-In”, which included hits such as “Close Your Eyes”, “Proibido” and “Na nha Sonho”.
