Biography
biography DJ Ride is one of the most renowned Portuguese producers and DJs, with a career marked by talent, versatility and innovation. His musical style combines elements of hip hop, drum and bass, dubstep, trap, grime and other electronic genres, with a strong component of turntablism and scratch. DJ Ride was born in 1985 and became interested in electronic music from an early age, influenced by his older brother. At the age of 13, he bought his first cymbals and started scratching, inspired by artists like Q-bert, Mix Master Mike or DJ Shadow. At the age of 15, he formed his first hip hop group, Micro Skillz, with which he released a model. In 2003, DJ Ride participated for the first time in a scratch championship, the ITF Portugal, where he came second in the solo category. The following year, he won the same championship and went to represent Portugal in the world final in Germany. In 2005, he repeated the feat and went to the world final in Poland. In 2006, he won the ITF Portugal again, both in the solo category and in the show category with the Beatbombers (his project with Stereossauro). In 2007, the Beatbombers placed third at the ITF/IDA World Final in Poland. In 2008, DJ Ride won DMC Supremacy Portugal and the Beatbombers won DMC Team Portugal. In 2007, DJ Ride released his first solo album, "Turntable Food", on Loop Recordings. The album was well received by critics and the public, showing his ability to produce original and varied songs using scratching. In 2009, he released his second album, "Beat Journey", through Optimus Discos. The album featured guest appearances from Valete, NBC, Sam The Kid or Ace. That same year, he also launched the first Portuguese scratch tool, "180 GR", in partnership with Red Bull Home Groove. In 2011, DJ Ride released his third album, "Psychedelic Soundwaves", via Optimus Discos. The album was more experimental and explored sounds such as dubstep, glitch hop or moombahton. In 2013, he released his fourth album, "Life in Loops", via Optimus Discos. The album was more mature and diverse than the previous ones, with the participation of Capicua, HMB or Jimmy P. In 2015, DJ Ride released his fifth album, "From Scratch", through NOS Discos. The album was made entirely with scratch and featured collaborations with Dengaz, Holly or MGDRV. In 2017, he released his sixth album, "Cookies", via NOS Discos. The album was more dancefloor oriented and featured guest appearances from Slow J, Papillon or Plutónio. DJ Ride has a successful international career, having performed in several countries and festivals such as Sónar (Spain), Eurosonic (Netherlands), Boomtown (United Kingdom) or Rock in Rio (Brazil). He has also collaborated with several international artists such as Diplo, A-Trak, Foreign Beggars or Mac Miller. DJ Ride is an artist who stands out for his creativity and refined scratch technique. He is one of the pioneers and references of electronic music in Portugal and one of the world scratch champions.
