Biography
biography DJ Carlos Manaça is a Portuguese electronic music DJ and producer, born in Barreiro, near Lisbon, in 1968, and began his professional career in 1986. He was one of the pioneers and main ambassadors of dance music made in Portugal. In 1992, he became a resident DJ at the Cais 447 club, in Porto, where he began to become known nationally. In 1994, he won the “New DJ” award from Dance Club magazine. In 1995, he moved to Rock’s Club, in Vila Nova de Gaia, where he played with international artists such as Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Armand Van Helden, Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills, among others. In 1999, he created Magna Recordings, one of the first electronic music publishers in Portugal, which released several albums by himself and other national and international artists. In 2001, he co-produced with Rui da Silva and Chus & Ceballos the song “The Strong Rhythm”, which was a worldwide success and was included on Deep Dish’s “Global Underground: Moscow” compilation. In 2002, he moved to Madrid and graduated in audio engineering from the SAE Institute. Since then, he has performed regularly in Portugal and abroad, in countries such as Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, Luxembourg, Poland, Croatia, Germany, Mexico, Angola, Mozambique, Russia, the United States and Spain. In 2010, he entered DJ Mag's Top 100, in position 81. In 2011 he rose to position 54. In 2012 he dropped to position 58. In 2013 he left the Top 1001. In 2016 he received a special award for his “30 Years of Career” by Rádio Nova Era. In 2017 he performed at Rock in Rio Lisboa in the electronic tent. DJ Carlos Manaça is a producer and remixer, working for artists such as Danny Tenaglia, Kristine W., Yoko Ono and others. He released songs on labels such as SCI+TEC (by Dubfire), Funk’n Deep (by Durtysoxxx), Toolroom (by Mark Knight), Orange Recordings (by Steve Mulder), Transmit (by Boris), Otto Music (by Oscar L), Kinetika Records (by DJ Boris), District Audio (by Spartaque) and his own Magna Recordings. DJ Carlos Manaça is considered one of the best Portuguese DJs of all time and one of the most respected in the world of electronic music, he continues to perform regularly in Portugal and abroad.
