Biography
biography Carlão is the stage name of Carlos Nobre Neves, a Portuguese singer and composer who stood out as the vocalist and lyricist of Da Weasel, one of the most influential bands in Portuguese hip hop. Born in Angola in 1975, son of Cape Verdean parents, Carlão came to Portugal in the same year and grew up in Almada. He showed an interest in music from an early age, having formed Da Weasel in 1993 with his childhood friends. The band lasted until 2009 and released seven studio albums, having achieved great success and recognition both in Portugal and abroad. After the end of Da Weasel, Carlão began a solo career, adopting his current name in 2014. He released three studio albums: Quarenta (2015), Entretenimento? (2018) and Entertainment? (2020). His songs mix hip hop with pop, rock, soul and other genres, covering themes such as family, love, friendship, society and Portuguese culture. Carlão has collaborated with several national and international artists, such as Boss AC, Marisa Liz, Blaya, Stereossauro, Tatanka, Moullinex and Xutos & Pontapés. Some of his biggest hits are “Os Tais”, “Assobia Para o Lado”, “Viver Pra Semper”, “A Maior Traição” and “Via Láctea”. Carlão also participated in several television programs as a guest or judge, highlighting his presence as a mentor in the 2023 edition of The Voice Kids Portugal. Carlão is known for his musical talent but also for his charismatic and humorous personality, being admired by audiences of all ages.
