biography Capitão Fausto is a Portuguese indie rock and indie pop band formed in 2009, in Lisbon. The band is composed of Tomás Wallenstein (vocals, guitar and keyboards), Manuel Palha (guitar and keyboards), Francisco Ferreira (keyboards), Domingos Coimbra (bass) and Salvador Seabra (drums). Captain Fausto began his musical career with the release of the EP of the same name in 2010, which included the songs “Teresa”, “Ajante Tou Melhor” and “Supernova”. In 2011, he released his first studio album, Gazela, which featured production by Nuno Rafael and the participation of Sérgio Nascimento on drums. The album was well received by critics and the public, reaching 12th place in the national charts. In 2014, they released their second album, Pesar o Sol, which showed the band's sound evolution, with psychedelic and progressive rock influences. The album was recorded at Valentim de Carvalho studios and was produced by Pedro da Silva Martins and Luís Nunes. The album included the singles “Maneiras Más”, “Litoral” and “Célebre Batalha de Formariz” and reached 5th place in the national top chart. In 2016, he released his third album, Capitão Fausto Têm os Dias Contados, which was considered one of the best Portuguese albums of the decade by Blitz. The album was recorded at Tomás Wallenstein's grandparents' house and was produced by the band itself. The album addressed themes such as youth, love and the transition to adulthood. The album included the hits “Ajante Tou Melhor”, “Corazón”, “Morro na Praia” and “Alvalade Chama por Mim” and reached first place on the national top. In 2019, he released his fourth album, A Invenção do Dia Claro, which was recorded in Brazil with the production of Diogo Strausz. The album presented a more pop and tropical sound, with influences from Brazilian music. The album included the songs “Semper Bem”, “Faço as Vontades”, “Amor, a Nossa Vida” and “Boa Memória” and again reached first place on the national top chart. Capitão Fausto is one of the most acclaimed and popular bands of its generation in Portugal, having performed at festivals such as Super Bock Super Rock, NOS Alive, Paredes de Coura and Rock in Rio Lisboa. The band has a diverse and creative sound, which explores different musical genres with originality and talent.
