biography Camané is one of the most acclaimed Portuguese fado singers today. His real name is Carlos Manuel Moutinho Paiva dos Santos Duarte and he was born in Oeiras in 1967. He was interested in fado from an early age, listening to his parents' records and singing in groups and fado houses in Lisbon. In 1979, he won the Grande Noite do Fado and recorded his first album, produced by António Chainho. After a break in his career, he returned to fado in the 90s, participating in several shows by Filipe La Féria and performing in several countries. His second album, Uma Noite de Fados, came out in 1995 and was very well received by critics and the public. Since then, Camané has released several successful albums, such as Na Linha da Vida (1998), Esta Coisa da Alma (2000), Pelo Dia Dentro (2001), Como Semper… Como Dantes (2003), Semper de Mim (2008), Do Amor e dos Dias (2010), Mais Tarde ou Mais Cedo (2013) and Infinito Presente (2015). Camané has collaborated with several artists from different musical genres, such as José Mário Branco, Rodrigo Leão, David Fonseca, Xutos & Pontapés and Dead Combo. He has also participated in films, documentaries and television programs related to fado. Camané is considered one of the heirs of the traditional fado tradition, but also a renewer who brings new sounds and poetry to the genre. Her expressive and emotional voice has won admirers around the world and has been honored with several awards, such as the Amália Rodrigues Prize, the José Afonso Prize, the Golden Globe and the Authors Prize.
