Biography
biography Boss AC is a Portuguese rapper and singer, considered one of the pioneers of national hip-hop. His stage name is an abbreviation for Ângelo César do Rosário Firmino, born in Mindelo, Cape Verde, on January 3, 1975. Son of Cape Verdean singer Ana Firmino, Boss AC came to Portugal as a child and grew up in Lisbon. Boss AC began his musical career in the late 80s, joining Cool Hipnoise and later forming the duo Boss AC and Q-Pid. In 1994, he participated in the compilation album Rapública, along with other names in Portuguese rap, such as Black Company, Da Weasel and General D. It was in this collection that he released the songs “Generate Power” and “A Verdade”, which gave him some prominence in the world. In 1996, he was the author of Cavaco Silva's campaign anthem, which earned him some criticism from the hip-hop community. In 1998, he released his first solo album, Manda Chuva, which was produced by Troy Hightower, one of the most renowned hip-hop producers in the USA. The album included songs such as “Dinero”, “Baza Baza” and “Letter to Santa Claus”, and showed Boss AC's versatility and musical eclecticism. In 2002, he released his second album, Rimar contra atida, which had as singles “Princesa (Beija-me again)”, with the participation of Berg, and “Bem-vindo ao past”, with the participation of Sam The Kid. The album was well received by the public and critics, and earned the rapper a Golden Globe nomination. In 2005, he released his third album, Ritmo, Amor e Palavras (RAP), which featured the special participation of North American singer Akon on the track “Keep it Real”. The album's other singles were “Sexta-feira (Emprego bom Já)” and “Tu és mais forte”, with the participation of Mariza. The album was a commercial and critical success, and earned the rapper another Golden Globe nomination. In 2008, he released his fourth album, Preto no Branco, which had the singles “Levanta-te (Stand Up)”, with the participation of Gutto, and “Alguém me Ouvi (Mantém-te Firm)”, with the participation of Marlon. The album also featured artists such as De La Soul, Gabriel O Pensador and TC. The album was another success in the career of Boss AC, who received another nomination for the Golden Globes. In 2012, he released his fifth album, AC Para os Amigos, which had the singles “Só Quero Ver-te Feliz”, featuring Shout!, and “Perhaps Um Dia”, featuring Rui Veloso. The album also featured artists such as Matay, DJ Ride and NGA. The album was well received by the public and critics, and earned the rapper another Golden Globe nomination. In 2018, he released his sixth album, A Vida Continua…, which had the singles “Por Favor (Diz-me)”, featuring Matay, and “Queque Foi?”, featuring Supa Squad. The album also featured artists such as Black Company, DJ Nee Nasty and DJ Soon. The album was praised by critics for its maturity and musical quality. Boss AC is one of the most respected and influential artists in Portuguese rap, who has always known how to innovate and renew his musical style. With more than twenty years of career and six original albums, Boss AC has collaborated with several national and international artists, and has received several awards and distinctions for his work.
